Welcome to the Aotearoa Aerospace Academy, where space science, aerospace engineering and education come together to give young people the chance to do much more than simply learn about space.
We are a team of educators, scientists, engineers and unapologetic space enthusiasts who believe the best way to understand something is to ask questions, experiment, build things, test them, occasionally discover why they didn’t work, and try again.
Together, Miranda Satterthwaite, Simon Willoughby-Martin, Haritina Mogoșanu and Samuel Leske, alongside our partner organisations, bring expertise spanning aerospace education, rocketry and engineering, astronomy, astrophysics, astrobiology and planetary exploration.
Our students might build and launch rockets, journey through the Solar System, investigate the possibility of life beyond Earth, design solutions for living in space, or become a Mars mission team and operate working rover models.
But the equipment is only part of the story.
We want young people to meet the people behind the science and engineering, discover that New Zealand has a thriving aerospace community, and realise that there are pathways into this extraordinary field from right here in Aotearoa.
This is where we’ll share our programmes, our people, useful resources, upcoming opportunities and some of the things we’re learning along the way.
Welcome aboard. Let’s see where curiosity takes us. 🌏🚀✨
